New Year, New you, we all start every new year with the idea that we need to re-invent ourselves. And to do that we need to stick to new year resolutions. We need to lose weight, get fit, start a new job, learn a new language, start to hang from chandeliers, dance naked throughout the woods! Whatever you resolute to do, who, in all honesty sticks to them rigidly throughout the year?
Oh don’t get us wrong, we were subscribers to this every new year and I mean big subscribers. Let’s go on a journey of self-development to make us better people. Because clearly we were not good enough in our heads and we needed to be better. We needed to know more, meditate more, be perfect little humans who are enlightened and have our shit together. And this is the image we portrayed for many many years. Every new year we decided it would be the same. And every year it failed miserably and epically usually within the first 3 weeks! There is evidence to suggest that by 17th January 80% of new year resolutions have been broken! If that is the case aren’t we just setting ourselves up and why bother?
Well not this new year, no way. Who needs that bollocks to start a new year and especially after the last year we have all had. The reason that we don’t need (ooooo that is a script word!) the reason we do not want to do new year resolutions is because we no longer feel broken. We are enough now, in fact we always were. We do not need fixing or making better, we do not need to pretend that we are perfect. Because we know we are 10/10 just like the day we were born.
And the same goes for each and every one of you. You are NOT broken in any way, the only thing is that you listen to the negative voice. You believe that you ARE that negative voice. Well heads up, you are NOT. You are not that voice, it is a separate entity. The real you does not need or want to have new year resolutions. The negative voice wants you to believe that there is something wrong with you, so it gets you to set them. Then when you break them, it re-enforces how bad you are. By now adding that you are a failure because you didn’t even manage to complete a new year resolution.
Seriously the negative voice really is a nasty piece of work that exists within us all in many different forms. However, it is NOT US, not the real us. The real us would not believe we are broken, bad, not enough. It knows deep down that we are all amazing human beings. The real us knows we are superheroes just pretending to be ordinary people. It knows we are good enough just as we are.
The only resolution we are making is to create more fun and laughter in our lives and those of others as best we can.
So sod the new year resolutions and resolute that you will not believe the negative voice in your head. Resolute that you will practice separating yourself from it and only believing the real you.
Keep flying high amazing superheroes
